Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer plans to have a meeting with edge rusher Micah Parsons on Sunday to discuss the young player’s behavior during the team’s preseason game last Friday.
Parsons made headlines due to his actions before and during the game, which included eating nachos in the hallways of AT&T Stadium, making a “call me” gesture towards an Atlanta fan, and lying on a medical table behind the bench. The 26-year-old player was not playing in the game as he seeks a lucrative contract extension.
Schottenheimer stated that without speaking to Parsons, he cannot fully understand his actions. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has also weighed in on the situation, dismissing the severity of Parsons’ back issues and suggesting they are part of negotiation tactics.
The team plans to handle the decision about Parsons’ future internally, but Schottenheimer did not comment on whether the player would be kept or traded. Parsons is set to play on his $24 million contract option this season, with a deal similar to T.J. Watt’s three-year, $123 million extension likely being sought.
Parsons had an MRI done last Friday, which came back “pretty clean.” However, he has been dealing with a back issue since training camp and was not seen playing in the preseason game.
