Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Expected to Play on Sept 4 Despite Limited Workload

Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed optimism about Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons returning for the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, despite concerns about his workload. Parsons did not participate in Friday’s preseason game due to a contract extension holdout, but an MRI on his back came back clean.

Schottenheimer acknowledged that Parsons’ limited participation could impact his performance against the Super Bowl champions. “He can be very disruptive,” the coach said. However, he also emphasized that Parsons’ medical clearance has improved with every passing day. The Cowboys have decided to play Parsons on a $21.324 million fifth-year option of his rookie contract.

While there’s been no breakthrough in contract talks, Schottenheimer believes that having Parsons around has helped him prepare for the season. The team will return to practice on Friday and will have three practices before flying to Philadelphia for their first game against the Eagles. “Every day that he can get out there and get reps would be great,” Schottenheimer said.
