Cowboys’ Micah Parsons’ Week 1 Status Uncertain Amid Contract Talks

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed uncertainty about star pass rusher Micah Parsons playing in Week 1 of the season. The team faces off against division rival and defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on September 4. When asked if he was confident Parsons would be part of the lineup, Jones replied, “No, absolutely not.” Parsons has been dealing with contract talks since announcing his trade request last week, citing “radio silence” from the Cowboys regarding a potential extension.

Despite the uncertainty, Parsons still attended practice and meetings during the team’s joint session with Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday. Jones praised Parsons’ talent, saying he believes Parsons is one of the brightest people he’s ever met. However, Jones acknowledged that finding the right mix for Parsons will be a challenge. If Parsons does not play Week 1, it would be a significant blow to the team’s defense.

Parsons has been one of the top pass rushers in the league since being drafted 12th overall in 2021, making four Pro Bowls and recording 52½ sacks in his career. The Cowboys’ defense will need Parsons at full strength if they hope to succeed this season.
