Cowboys’ Parsons Contract Standoff Enters New Phase

The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons are at an impasse in their contract negotiations for a new extension. Owner and general manager Jones reiterated that an offer was on the table but was withdrawn because Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, was not involved.

Jones claims that he had already negotiated with Parsons, offering him a deal that would make him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history in terms of guaranteed money. However, Parsons’ agent allegedly expressed concerns about the offer, saying it was not valid without his involvement.

The issue is further complicated by the fact that Parsons still has three years left on his rookie contract and can be franchise-tagged for two more years. Jones believes that Parsons should have taken the deal he offered, but instead, Mulugheta is trying to negotiate further.

Jones emphasized that his role is to manage the team’s finances, while Parsons’ job is to play football. He argued that having an agent in the negotiations would be unnecessary and might even hinder the process.

The standoff comes as no surprise, given Jones’ history of negotiating directly with players, including Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who signed a four-year, $240 million extension after being franchised-tagged twice.

Jones believes that Parsons is essential to the team’s success and should take the deal he offered. He warned that if Parsons chooses not to play under his contract this year, it would be costly for both the player and the team.

The ball is now in Parsons’ and Mulugheta’s court, with Jones confident that a resolution will be reached soon.
