Cracker Barrel, a popular restaurant chain, has quietly removed its Pride page from its website after facing intense criticism over its rebranding efforts. The company had previously been under scrutiny by conservative activists for its support of LGBT causes and modernist redesign.
The move comes after Cracker Barrel’s new logo was met with backlash from customers, who preferred the old design featuring an image of a smiling old man. In response to customer feedback, the company announced that it would return to its former logo, citing a desire to maintain its country hospitality and warm welcomes.
Cracker Barrel had previously sponsored the Nashville Pride Parade in 2024 and showcased rainbow-colored rocking chairs during Pride month. The company also has an LGBTQ employee resource group called the “LGBTQ+ Alliance.” However, some critics argue that the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index uses the rating to pressure corporations into adopting progressive policies.
The chain had received a score of zero on the inaugural index in 2002 but saw its score improve over time. In 2021, it reached an 80 after taking public pro-LGBTQ stances. However, its efforts to rebrand and modernize have been met with resistance from some customers.
In a statement, Cracker Barrel said that customer feedback had led to the decision to return to its former logo, stating that “it’s always been — and always will be — about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family.”
