Craig Melvin Takes Helm on Today Show as WIS Alumna Cheers Him On

WIS alumnus Craig Melvin marked a major milestone in his career as he officially joined the Today show as co-anchor, surrounded by friends and family.

Melvin, who graduated from Columbia’s Wofford College in 2001 with a degree in government, was warmly welcomed by fellow anchor Savannah Guthrie on Monday. The two shared a heartfelt moment, with Guthrie thanking WIS for their support of Melvin throughout his journey.

A group of Wofford Terriers fans made the trip to New York to celebrate Melvin’s new role, and even created a sign featuring his senior yearbook picture from 2001. Some of Melvin’s childhood friends also joined him on the Today Show Plaza, praising his authenticity and professionalism.

Guthrie praised Melvin for his genuine nature and said she admires his heart and dedication to the craft. The two share a strong bond rooted in their faith.

For Melvin, being part of this milestone is about more than just personal achievement – it’s about sharing his success with loved ones. As he starts this new chapter, he expressed gratitude to his parents, Lawrence and Betty Jo, for instilling values that led him to where he is today.

As Melvin begins his journey on the Today show, he remains true to his roots, saying “I love you, South Carolina,” as a reminder of his hometown pride.
