Craig Wright Sentenced to 1 Year in Prison for Contempt of Court

Craig Wright, the man claiming he invented Bitcoin and asserting intellectual property rights, has been sentenced to a year in prison for contempt of court. However, the sentence is suspended and can be enforced if Wright continues violating court rulings.

Wright defied an order to attend a court hearing in person this week and claimed he was in Asia. He had filed a $1.1 trillion lawsuit against Twitter’s payments company Block in Britain, which the High Court of Justice ruled cannot pursue without violating previous orders.

In July, a judge referred Wright to prosecutors for perjury and forgery charges. A written judgment found that Wright committed contempt for claiming he is Satoshi Nakamoto, a stance the court had previously ordered him to stop.

The suspended 12-month sentence means Wright could face jail if he continues to claim Bitcoin invention rights. With an international arrest warrant possible if he stays out of the UK, it remains to be seen whether Wright will comply with court orders or face further consequences.
