Crozer Chester Medical Center to Stay Open Amid Bankruptcy Filing

Prospect Medical Holdings, the parent company of Crozer Chester Medical Center, has filed for bankruptcy, sparking concerns about the hospital’s future. However, officials assure that the hospital will remain open as its parent company searches for a buyer.

State Senator Peggy Malone, who represents the nurses’ union at Crozer Chester, is taking action to ban for-profit companies from buying hospitals in Pennsylvania. She promises a full-scale fight against the hospital’s owner, citing dire conditions and aging equipment.

Lawmakers, including State Senators John Kane and Tim Kearney, have expressed outrage over the situation. A news conference at the Delaware County Courthouse saw two dozen officials gather to show support for the hospital.

Despite concerns about the hospital’s condition, officials claim that the building is in good shape and should continue to operate as a hospital. However, the hospital was recently forced to evacuate dozens of patients due to a water main break, which left it without power.

Crozer Chester Medical Center plays a vital role in the city of Chester, particularly with its trauma center. Mayor Stefan Roots has praised the hospital, stating that it is “unthinkable” for it to be in such dire condition.

An investigation into Prospect Medical Holdings has been launched by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, according to lawmakers. The company’s standard procedure is to neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation.

Lawmakers are pressing for accountability and transparency from the hospital’s owner, with Rep. Leanne Krueger stating that she will “fight like hell” to keep the hospital open.
