A family known for living off cryptocurrency since 2017 has taken drastic measures to protect themselves amid a surge in crypto kidnappings. The ‘Bitcoin Family,’ led by Didi Taihuttu, has adopted a complex security method to safeguard their digital assets.
The family has hidden metal cards engraved with segments of crypto codes across four continents and stored other pieces through encryption services. This system is designed to prevent attackers from accessing more than 24-word crypto keys, even if they find 18 of the 24 words.
“We have changed everything,” Didi said. “Even if someone held me at gunpoint, I can’t give them more than what’s on my wallet on my phone. And that’s not a lot.” The family has also swapped out some phrases to throw off attackers and added currency to wallets without the codes, but would need to travel internationally to access the crypto.
The Taihuttu family’s concerns come as multiple high-profile figures in the crypto realm have been brutally attacked and killed. They have taken steps back from their online fame to preserve their safety and are now mostly trading on decentralized platforms such as Apex.
