CSUN Beats No. 5 Hawaii in Thrilling Match

Cal State Northridge (CSUN) secured its first conference win by sweeping top-ranked team Hawaii for the first time this season, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20. Jalen Phillips led the Matadors with a match-high 16 kills, while Joao Avila added 10 kills and hit .692.

CSUN dominated every aspect of the game, hitting .507 as a team and recording 9.5 blocks in the first two sets. The Rainbow Warriors struggled to keep pace, with Kristian Titriyski accounting for 14 of Hawaii’s 30 total kills.

The Matadors’ victory marked Hawaii’s first three-set loss of the season, while CSUN improved its record to 16-7 and 1-4 in conference play. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 3 p.m.
