The Chicago Cubs have called up third baseman Matt Shaw from Triple-A Iowa to bolster their roster. In a corresponding move, the team has designated Nicky Lopez for assignment. Shaw, 23, boasts impressive numbers in his last 11 games, batting .295 with a 1.119 OPS and five home runs. The right-hander was initially selected by the Cubs with the 13th overall pick in the 2023 draft from the University of Maryland.
