Cucumber Recall Linked to Salmonella Outbreak Affects Multiple States and Retailers

A salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers has sickened 68 people in 19 states, with more cases possible due to many recoveries without medical care. The outbreak is attributed to cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Mexico, distributed by SunFed Produce.

Grocery store chains including Walmart, Costco, Wegmans, and Albertsons have issued recalls due to potential salmonella contamination. Consumers who purchased the recalled products are advised to contact SunFed’s recall hotline at 888-542-5849 for more information.

Symptoms of salmonella infection typically include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, which may occur between six hours and six days after exposure. In severe cases, symptoms can include aches, headaches, lethargy, rashes, and blood in the urine or stool.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has linked the outbreak to cucumbers grown in Mexico, with sales reported in 26 states and Canadian provinces. The FDA has associated SunFed cucumbers with some salmonella infections, and Walmart has alerted customers to the recall on its website.
