Cursor AI Support Bot Falsifies Subscription Policy, Apologizes

Cursor AI’s own support bot hallucinated its usage policy, stating that users could only maintain multiple logins on different machines if they had paid for the subscription service. However, this limitation does not exist. The bot’s response was misleading, causing confusion among users.

Co-founder Michael Truell apologized to Reddit users and acknowledged that a change to improve security caused the issue. He stated that Cursor provides an interface for viewing active sessions in its settings, and that the developer who raised the issue had been refunded. The support bot’s mistake has been fixed, and AI responses used for email support are now clearly labeled as such.

The incident highlights the limitations of current AI technology, particularly with regard to hallucinations, which can generate inaccurate or low-quality responses. Experts warn that companies must conduct thorough testing to mitigate these risks and prioritize transparency when using AI-powered support bots.
