CD Projekt Red has confirmed that its sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Cyberpunk 2, is now in pre-production. The studio revealed this during its latest financial results, which also showed impressive sales figures for the Phantom Liberty expansion.
According to CD Projekt, 96 of its 730 developers are currently working on Cyberpunk 2, with a majority (422) focusing on The Witcher 4. The team responsible for the next big game in the Cyberpunk universe has completed the project’s conceptual phase and is now moving forward to pre-production.
CD Projekt Red CEO MichaĆ Nowakowski confirmed that the development process typically takes four to five years to complete, but emphasized that each project is unique and variables can influence the final outcome. While a release window for Cyberpunk 2 was not specified, it seems that the game still has a long way off.
Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith recently provided some insights into the game’s development, including details about its setting and new features. Pondsmith confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 will feature a brand new city in addition to Night City, describing it as “like Chicago gone wrong.” The game may explore themes of a dystopian version of Chicago or a similar metropolis.
With CD Projekt Red working on multiple projects simultaneously, including an upcoming Cyberpunk animation series and the release of Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch, fans are eagerly awaiting more information about Cyberpunk 2.
