Cyclones Win Close Cy-Hawk Rivalry Game Against Hawkeyes

The No. 3 Iowa State Cyclones defeated their rivals, the Iowa Hawkeyes, 89-80 in a close game that went down to the wire. This was Iowa State’s first win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena since 2014 and its second consecutive victory over the Hawkeyes.

Iowa State trailed for most of the game but made a comeback in the second half. The Cyclones tied the score with a 13-4 run, capped by Nate Heise’s second-chance bucket, making it 66-66 with 7:44 remaining. Iowa State eventually took the lead and held off the Hawkeyes down the stretch.

Curtis Jones led the Cyclones with 23 points, including 15 in the second half. Joshua Jefferson contributed a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Dishon Jackson chipped in 12 points. The team shot 44.3% overall and 39.3% from deep.

Iowa’s strong start was fueled by back-to-back threes and sharp shooting in the first half. However, the Hawkeyes cooled off from long range in the second half and were held to just four makes out of 15 attempts.

Despite a tough game, Iowa State improved its record to 8-1 overall and looks forward to its next match against Omaha at home on Sunday.
