D.W. Field Park Closed Amid Avian Flu Outbreak

D.W. Field Park in Brockton has been closed due to concerns about an avian flu outbreak. Officials found dead swans and Canada geese near the park, 25 miles away, along Upper Porter Pond. The birds were suspected to have highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1), commonly known as bird flu. Park officials stated they took the closure decision out of “an abundance of caution for wildlife issues.” The area remains closed, and residents are advised to stay away while officials monitor the situation. This action underscores the importance of closures in protecting wildlife and public health.
