Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to star in the new movie adaptation of Jane Austen’s first novel, Sense and Sensibility. The actress will play Elinor Dashwood, the older sister of Marianne Dashwood.
Edgar-Jones announced her casting on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself holding a worn copy of the book. The film is set to explore the themes of restraint and passion as Elinor navigates love, loss, and financial uncertainty in 18th century England.
The novel has been adapted for the screen multiple times before, with notable versions including Ang Lee’s 1995 film starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. Edgar-Jones’ casting is a new addition to this list of adaptations.
Edgar-Jones is known for her roles in films like Twisters and Fresh, as well as several series and movies adapted from books, including Where the Crawdads Sing and Normal People. In an interview with Elle, she expressed her appreciation for the subjective nature of art and her excitement to be a part of another book-to-screen adaptation.
A release date for the new film has not been announced yet, but fans are already excited to see Edgar-Jones take on the role of Elinor Dashwood.
