Dallas Cowboys Hires First-Time Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer

Dallas Cowboys hire Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach after a 29-year drought in Super Bowl appearances. The franchise announced the hire on Monday, following interviews with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, and Seattle Seahawks assistant coach Leslie Frazier.

Schottenheimer, who spent his first five years as an assistant coach at the Cowboys, will take over a team that hasn’t won a Super Bowl since 1985. He emphasized his desire to build chemistry between players and believes in developing young talent on and off the field.

“I think we’ve got a lot of great pieces,” Jerry Jones, Cowboys owner and general manager, said about hiring Schottenheimer. “We have to support him as he wants to do things differently than Mike McCarthy.”

Schottenheimer has a proven track record with his father, head coach Marty Schottenheimer, who managed four Super Bowls but never won one. He told reporters that becoming the youngest head coach in NFL history was a long-term goal for him.

The Cowboys’ decision to bring Schottenheimer, despite considering other candidates like Philadelphia’s Kellen Moore and Seattle’s Leslie Frazier, highlights their commitment to making a bold hire after a difficult playoff drought.
