NBA rookie Dalton Knecht has been traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Charlotte Hornets, according to a report by ESPN’s Shams Charania. Knecht, who was drafted 17th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, will join a team that already features former Tennessee star Grant Williams on its roster.
The trade package sent Knecht to Charlotte included Cam Reddish and two future draft picks in exchange for Mark Williams, the center who is currently sidelined with an ACL injury. The move was made by the Lakers to fill the center spot after trading starting center Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks.
Knecht’s time with the Lakers has seen him average 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in just over 20 minutes of playing time, while shooting 35.8% from three-point range. His performance includes five 20-point games, including a notable outing against Philadelphia where he scored 24 points on five three-pointers.
A standout player during his lone season at Tennessee, Knecht was named SEC Player of the Year and earned consensus first-team All-American honors. The trade marks another significant move in the Lakers’ rebuild, following their blockbuster deal that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas for Luka Doncic.
