Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right calf, which will sideline him for an indefinite period, the team announced Tuesday. The 34-year-old point guard is on blood-thinning medication and has undergone a series of meetings with specialists to diagnose the clot.
Lillard’s health is the top priority for the Bucks, with general manager Jon Horst stating that the team will support him as he recovers from the injury. Doctors have indicated that the condition is unlikely to recur, and the early treatment helped stabilize the clot.
The diagnosis comes as a setback for the Bucks, who are battling for their spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Lillard’s absence has already affected their performance, with a significant drop in scoring when he is not on the court. The team has 11 games left in the regular season and will have to navigate this injury without their star player.
Lillard was also forced to sit out several games earlier in the season due to calf injuries, and his presence in the lineup significantly boosts the Bucks’ scoring average. His absence has dropped them to No. 5 in the East, but they are still just a half-game ahead of the Detroit Pistons.
The injury is the second major setback for the Bucks this season, following Giannis Antetokounmpo’s calf injury that forced him to sit out their first-round series loss to the Indiana Pacers last year.
