US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams plans to leave his post before Donald Trump takes office in January, according to sources familiar with the situation. Williams has served as US Attorney since 2021 and will step down before the inauguration. Following his departure, President-elect Trump announced that Jay Clayton, a former regulator and lawyer who headed the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2017-2020, will take over Williams’ role as US Attorney for SDNY.
