Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Predator: Badlands, has been talking about his latest sci-fi adventure movie. The film is set in a distant future and features an extraterrestrial setting, new additions to the Predator franchise’s lore, and a thrilling experience for fans.
Trachtenberg explained that he was nervous about tonal changes in the movie, but the studio ultimately supported him. He revealed that there are deleted scenes and previz in the DVD and Blu-ray bonus features, including a big synth fight that didn’t make it into the final cut. The director also mentioned that every major scene that was shot and cut is included in the home release.
When asked about Easter eggs and hidden details, Trachtenberg pointed out some notable examples, such as the ship’s trophy room containing a skull with his daughter’s name. He also teased that there might be more to uncover.
Trachtenberg reassured fans that he is still involved with the Predator franchise, including a post-Prey project in development. The director discussed the connections between Badlands and Killer of Killers, but didn’t reveal any definitive answers about the timeline or Dek’s tribe.
The film’s star, Elle Fanning, plays dual roles as synth “sisters” Thia and Tessa, which Trachtenberg said was always intended to be a two-Elle story. The director explained that this addition reflected Dek’s storyline of complicated families.
Trachtenberg’s love for sci-fi and video games inspired his approach to the movie, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store next for the Predator franchise.
