UFC CEO Dana White is facing backlash from fans after light-heavyweight contender Diyar Nurgozhay missed weight by 3.5lbs for his UFC Vegas 104 bout against Brendson Ribeiro. Nurgozhay’s excessive weight made the fight uncertain, with some fans urging White to cut him from his contract before he even steps into the octagon.
Nurgozhay weighed in at 210.5lbs, more than the 206lb limit, and initially refused to use the towel or try to shed further pounds. The situation was only resolved when Ribeiro came in at 205.5lbs, allowing the two fighters to agree on a bout.
Despite his weight miss, Nurgozhay wasn’t the only fighter to struggle with the weight limit, with Chidi Njokuani and Josias Musasa also missing by smaller margins. However, fans took to social media to express their outrage at White’s handling of the situation, calling for him to cut Nurgozhay from his contract due to what they perceived as a lack of professionalism.
The UFC is yet to comment on the matter, but it appears that White has maintained his stance, allowing the fight to proceed despite Nurgozhay’s weight miss.
