Danes are boycotting American products as a response to US President Donald Trump’s policies towards Greenland. The move is part of a growing grassroots movement in Denmark, where many citizens feel threatened and alienated by the US administration’s actions.
The boycott, which started with concerns over marzipan made from California-grown almonds used by Toms Group, has gained momentum as Danes look for ways to make conscious spending decisions. Many are canceling their US subscriptions, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, and opting for local alternatives instead.
Danish school principal Bo Albertus has taken a stand against the American government through conscious spending, replacing California red wine with Italian bottles and switching from popular streaming services like Disney and HBO to a local Danish service.
The pressure on the Danish government is increasing as Danes use their purchasing habits to push for a stronger stance against Trump’s administration. Historically, Denmark has been a close ally of the US, but many citizens are now demanding more robust action in response to Trump’s policies.
As tensions continue to rise, it remains to be seen how long this boycott will last and what impact it will have on US-Denmark relations.
