Danny Elgarat, brother of Itzik, who was taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, called for prioritizing the return of living hostages over those he lost during a Tuesday speech at the Knesset. He claimed his brother might not survive the ordeal and urged bringing back alive individuals while leaving the bodies behind. However, Hannah Cohen, aunt of Inbar Heyman, whose body remains captive, opposed Elgarat’s remarks, stating that bodies should also be retrieved.
Elgarat emphasized missed opportunities to save lives during the November 2023 hostage deal, noting his brother was among those sacrificed. The committee adjourned after an emotional exchange. Elgarat later highlighted the November deal’s failure to rescue elderly hostages and warned of accountability for military pressure directives in the May deal.
Itzik, a 69-year-old, was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7 and remains missing among 29 other hostages still captive. Danny tracked his brother’s location hours after the abduction following a call where he heard gunshots and pleas for help.
