A group of companies in Tokyo’s Tokyu Group is testing a new way to build data centers. They’re placing servers and other equipment under railway overpasses. The goal is to see if this type of setup can work well, despite the trains above causing vibration and heat.
The project involves four companies: Tokyu Corporation, Tokyu Electric Railway, It’s Communications Corporation, and Tokyu Construction. They’ll be measuring how well the data center works in this unusual location. One advantage they’re looking at is the existing fiber optic cable that already runs along the railways.
This trial comes as Tokyo faces challenges building new data centers. High land prices and long wait times for power connections have made it difficult to build data centers in the city. The Tokyu project aims to address these issues by finding a creative solution.
