Daughter Reveals She Was Possibly Abused by Father in France’s Biggest Rape Trial

Dominique Pelicot, 71, convicted of drugging and raping his wife Gisèle, has 50 co-defendants who received guilty verdicts ranging from three to 15 years for their roles in the abuse.

Caroline Darian, the daughter of Dominique Pelicot and Gisèle’s child with her previous husband, spoke out publicly for the first time since her father’s conviction. She claims she was drugged by her father as well and believes she may have been raped.

In an interview with The Guardian, Caroline shared her experiences during the trial and described feeling anger towards the perpetrators. However, she also felt shame and embarrassment when shown images of herself sleeping in underwear on her mother’s computer equipment.

Caroline stated that her father would label a folder called “my naked daughter” on his computer, which included two images of her sleeping in beige underwear. She claimed that these were not photos of her in that position and that she had never worn the specific pair of underwear before.

Despite the lack of direct evidence, Caroline believes she was drugged by her father and says she will likely never know for sure if she was raped or abused.

Gisèle Pelicot also shared her experiences during the trial, revealing how the discovery drove her to the brink of suicide. She spoke about feeling isolated and struggling to come to terms with what happened to her.

Caroline has since launched a pressure group called “Don’t Send Me To Sleep,” to raise awareness about chemical submission and support for victims of abuse.

Her father’s conviction marks one of France’s biggest-ever rape trials, with 92 rapes committed by 72 men identified.
