Comedian David Letterman has thrown shade at his former network, CBS, after it announced that “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” would be ending in May 2026. In response, Letterman shared a video montage of himself roasting the network over the years and posted the quip “You can’t spell CBS without BS.”
Letterman, who hosted “The Late Show” from 1993 to 2015, has been friends with Colbert since he took over as host in 2014. The cancellation was cited as a financial decision by CBS, but some have questioned the timing of the announcement amid the sale of Paramount, the parent company of CBS.
Colbert has faced criticism from President Donald Trump, and fellow comedians Jon Stewart, John Oliver, and Jimmy Fallon have rallied around him since the news broke. Colbert appeared on Monday’s show, saying “Some people see this show going away as a sign of something truly dire,” but added that he doesn’t agree, citing his show’s focus on how viewers feel at the end of each night.
