Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery’s season is still uncertain after he sought a third medical opinion on his MCL injury. The team opted not to place him on injured reserve, leaving the door open for a potential return. Coach Dan Campbell explained that Montgomery is seeking additional clarity on the injury and wants to be sure it is stable before making any decisions.
The Lions will have to rely on their reserves this week against the Chicago Bears, with Jahmyr Gibbs taking on a bigger role. The team will also be watching three other running backs – Craig Reynolds, Sione Vaki, and Jermar Jefferson – as they compete for playing time in practice.
Campbell said that Montgomery’s recovery will depend on his trust in himself to play at a high level without putting himself at risk of further injury. With no clear timeline for a decision, the Lions will continue to monitor Montgomery’s progress and make adjustments accordingly.
