DAZN and ACE Shut Down Piracy Website Photocall in Spain

DAZN and its antipiracy coalition ACE have taken down a piracy website that retransmitted live channels from 60 countries. The website, called Photocall, was visited over 26 million times last year and accessed unauthorized content from major sports brands like MotoGP and Formula 1.

The operator of the site agreed to shut it down after an investigation by ACE and DAZN. According to Oscar Vilda, CEO of DAZN Iberia, “content theft harms the entire sports ecosystem.” The website redistributed content without permission from partners like Serie A, NFL, NHL, and Women’s Tennis Association.

Nearly 30% of Photocall traffic came from Spain, with Mexico, Germany, Italy, and the US making up a smaller percentage. ACE and DAZN claim their actions are targeted and proportionate to protect rights holders and audiences while maintaining live sports integrity.

The takedown is seen as a success for deterrence efforts against piracy. Larissa Knapp, Executive Vice President at MPA, said “our actions are designed to protect rights-holders and audiences.”
