Bowser, 53, used her charm and strategic moves to negotiate with Trump’s administration. She removed a mural in Black Lives Matter Plaza and beautified city property that drew Trump’s attention. However, some critics argue she has compromised on her principles.
Bowser came up with the idea of issuing a mayoral order clarifying how D.C. would work with federal law enforcement. This move aimed to appease Trump while preserving D.C.’s autonomy. The plan seemed to succeed as House Speaker Mike Johnson announced he wouldn’t extend the emergency order, which expired in six days.
Despite this, some residents remain skeptical about Bowser’s motives. Others are concerned that she may have compromised on her principles by cooperating with Trump.
