D.C. United has appointed Rene Weiler as their new head coach, six days after parting ways with Troy Lesesne. Weiler, 51, brings extensive experience managing clubs in Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Egypt, and Japan since 2009.
Most recently, he led Swiss Super League side Servette FC to the 2024 Swiss Cup title. D.C. United general manager Ally Mackay praised Weiler’s tactical abilities, stating that his teams are organized, aggressive, and purposeful in attack.
Weiler has won six titles, including the Belgian Pro League with Anderlecht and the Egyptian Premier League with Al Ahly. He expressed confidence in D.C. United’s project, citing a solid foundation for building a championship-winning team.
The 13th-placed D.C. United are at risk of missing the MLS Cup Playoffs for a sixth consecutive season. Weiler aims to help the club regain its competitive edge and return to title contention.
