DC Studios’ highly anticipated action war movie Sgt. Rock has been cancelled, sources confirm. The film, directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Colin Farrell as the titular character, was set to shoot in England this summer but will no longer move forward.
The project had a strong script written by Justin Kuritzkes, which attracted interest from top executives, including James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, despite its promising start, the film’s outdoor shooting requirements proved too challenging to overcome.
Guadagnino was lined up to direct, with Mike Faist set to star alongside an actress playing a female French Resistance fighter. The story follows Sgt. Rock as he teams up with the resistance fighter to find the mystical Spear of Destiny, racing against time to prevent the Nazis from getting their hands on it.
The cancellation marks another setback for DC’s plans to bring classic characters like Sgt. Rock to the big screen. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis had previously expressed interest in starring in the film, which will now have to wait even longer for its release.
