Deadly Earthquake Strikes Myanmar and Thailand, Causing Widespread Destruction

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, triggering widespread destruction and chaos in the country. The earthquake also caused a high-rise building to collapse in Bangkok, Thailand, resulting in at least 18 deaths and over 75 people missing.

In Mandalay, the epicenter of the earthquake, reports indicate that over 3,400 people were injured, more than 1,700 killed, and some 300 still missing. The damage is extensive, with bridges, buildings, and roads severely affected.

Preliminary reports from local sources show that:

– In Myanmar, 2 publishers are missing, while 9 were injured and 142 displaced.
– In Thailand, 2 publishers were injured, and over 50 people displaced.

Relief efforts are underway in both countries, with circuit overseers and local elders coordinating practical assistance to those affected. A Disaster Relief Committee has been assigned in Myanmar to oversee the relief efforts.
