Deadly Floods Hit Pakistan, India, Nepal, Leaving Hundreds Dead or Missing

Heavy rains in recent weeks have triggered sudden floods that have killed over 300 people across parts of Pakistan, India-administered Kashmir and Nepal, with scores remaining missing. At least 203 people died in northwestern Pakistan, while five crew members were killed after a helicopter crashed during relief efforts.

In India-administered Kashmir, at least 60 people have died, with more than 200 missing in the town of Chashoti. In Nepal, at least 41 people died and 121 are injured, according to Reuters reports.

The floods were exacerbated by a particularly fierce monsoon season, which began in early June. Torrential rains, huge landslides and deadly floodwaters have ripped through the region. Authorities have issued a flood alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of more flash floods and urban flooding.

Analysts warn that human-made climate crisis has intensified seasonal floods in the Himalayas this year. Frantic rescue operations are ongoing across the region, with army and police personnel working to find those missing.
