The New York Islanders edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night, thanks to Tony DeAngelo’s game-winning goal. The win extends the Islanders’ winning streak to seven games.
Kyle Palmieri and Adam Boqvist also scored for the Islanders, while Ilya Sorokin made 28 saves in net. Nikita Kucherov tied the game for the Lightning with just 46.1 seconds left in regulation.
The Lightning had opened the scoring through Jake Guentzel’s goal at 5:39 of the second period, but Boqvist equalized for the Islanders midway through the period. Palmieri put New York ahead early in the third before Kucherov levelled it again.
The loss drops the Lightning to 0-14-3 this season when scoring two or fewer goals. The Islanders head to Florida on Sunday, while the Lightning host Ottawa on Tuesday night.
