Debbie McWilliams, who cast each of the last 13 James Bond films for Eon Productions, has announced her retirement from casting. This decision comes after Amazon MGM Studios acquired creative control of the franchise.
McWilliams’ retirement marks a significant change for the spy series, which is now looking for a new casting director to fill the iconic role and other key positions. McWilliams, a UK-based casting director, has also cast notable actors in various films, including Daniel Day-Lewis and Kenneth Branagh’s breakout roles.
Prior to Amazon’s acquisition, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson held creative control. However, with Broccoli’s retirement, the duo no longer had the resources to maintain their workload. McWilliams stated that she wishes everyone luck during the transition but acknowledged it won’t be the same as having her hands on the reins.
Amazon has taken over creative control of the series, which may have implications for future Bond films, particularly in terms of casting decisions.
