Demolition crews finished tearing down the historic East Wing at the White House last week, clearing the way for a new walkway and ballroom. The debris has been loaded onto a truck and taken to Smith Industries in Maryland, where it will be sorted and sold.
Historically significant components of the East Wing have been preserved and are likely to find a new home. However, some items like Jacqueline Kennedy’s garden were removed during the demolition process. The truck carrying the debris was spotted crossing into Maryland and entering Smith Industries, a large scrap yard that processes discarded materials from across the country.
