“Deli Boys,” created by Abdullah Saeed, has made the transition from cannabis-related content to a scripted sitcom on Hulu. The show revolves around two spoiled rich kids who discover that their family legacy isn’t actually about running convenience stores but is instead a cocaine smuggling ring.
The brothers, Mir and Raj, are an odd couple – Mir is an uptight MBA type engaged to a nice pharma rep, while Raj is a charismatic party boy with an “orgy cabal” in lieu of a partner. As they navigate their family’s dark past, they must outsmart the FBI and rise through the ranks of the Dar empire, also known as Dark DarCo.
While the show tackles serious topics like representation and cultural identity, it does so with a comedic tone that pokes fun at traditional gangster dramas. Poorna Jagannathan shines in her role as Auntie Lucky, a cold-blooded queenpin who adds to the humor.
Despite its lighthearted nature, “Deli Boys” explores themes of family, loyalty, and power struggles within the Pakistani-American community. With its talented cast, including Sakina Jaffrey and Tan France, the show is a delightful and entertaining watch.
All 10 episodes of “Deli Boys” are now available to stream on Hulu, offering a fresh take on the gangster comedy genre with a unique cultural twist.
