Dell has been mocked for copying Apple’s iPhone naming convention in its new PC line-up, which includes three tiers: Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max. Despite claiming simplicity as the reason, critics say it’s just a case of imitation.
The company is abandoning its own sub-brands like XPS and Inspiron in favor of the new naming convention. However, this move has only made things more confusing for buyers, with each tier further divided into Base, Plus, and Premium variants.
Even the smallest details have been stretched to absurdity, such as the addition of size labels for desktop PCs like Dell Pro Max Micro and Dell Pro Max Mini. It’s a farce that leaves buyers questioning whether a Pro Plus is better than a Pro Max Base or a Pro Premium versus Pro Max Plus.
As one commenter pointed out, calling them XPS and XPS Pro would have been a straightforward solution. It’s clear that Dell has missed the mark on simplicity and originality, leaving its competitors – including Apple – to revel in its confusion.
