Delta Air Lines has announced a new route connecting New York-JFK Airport to Delhi, India, as part of a codeshare agreement with Indian carrier IndiGo. The partnership aims to offer passengers unparalleled connectivity and convenience between the US and India.
According to OAG Traffic Analyzer data, 53,000 people traveled roundtrip between Atlanta and Delhi in 2024, making it one of the busiest Indian routes from Atlanta. Delta’s new service will benefit from connections over Atlanta through its own network, as well as IndiGo’s vast network from the Indian capital.
This marks Delta’s latest attempt to tap into the growing Indian market, which has seen significant interest from major carriers in recent years. In 1990, Northwest Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines launched flights from Amsterdam to Delhi and Mumbai, with Delta later operating non-stop services from Paris to Mumbai and Chennai.
The new partnership also aligns with IndiGo’s long-haul expansion plans, as the carrier begins flights to Istanbul and is set to introduce its own Airbus A350s in 2027. As part of the codeshare agreement, IndiGo customers will be able to book onward travel on select Delta flights, making it easier to reach destinations across Europe and North America.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian expressed his commitment to expanding the airline’s network, saying that combining strengths with partners like IndiGo will enable passengers to enjoy higher standards of service and reliability. With this new route, Delta aims to offer a seamless travel experience between the US and India.
