Delta Flight Crashes at Toronto Pearson Airport Amid Strong Winds

A Delta flight from Minneapolis to Toronto was forced to make an emergency landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday due to strong winds and snow. The Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, carrying 80 passengers and crew, experienced a sudden and severe gust of wind that caused it to flip over and crash onto the runway.

Despite being upside down, all 80 people on board survived, but 18 were injured, including a child who is reported to be in good condition. The cause of the crash is still unclear, but investigators are working to determine how the aircraft was upended.

The airport’s air traffic controllers had notified pilots of strong winds approaching the airport, with gusts reaching 38 mph. However, just two minutes after touchdown, the plane flipped over and caught fire. Passengers reported being upside down in their seats, but managed to escape with the help of flight attendants who helped them crawl out of open exit doors.

The crash prompted Toronto Pearson International Airport to shut down all five runways, causing significant delays and diverting several flights to nearby airports. The two runways where the crash occurred will remain closed for several days as investigators examine the scene.
