Delta Resumes Operations After Severe Weather Disruption

Severe weather has caused significant disruptions to Delta’s operations at its Atlanta hub. On June 27, thunderstorms brought hail, lightning, and hazardous wind, causing an evacuation and temporary power loss at the air traffic control tower. The storm resulted in hundreds of cancellations, diversions, and delays across the airline’s entire system.

As a result, Delta experienced disruptions to over 900 daily flights, affecting hundreds of customers. The airline has been working around the clock to restore operations and make it right with its customers.

According to Erik Snell, Delta’s Chief Customer Experience Officer, “We’re sorry for disruptions to your travel… We work around the clock to make it right.” The airline’s teams have made significant progress in returning aircraft to service after thorough overnight inspections. Operations teams are actively working to get crews back on schedule.

For affected customers, Delta recommends checking the Fly Delta app and Delta.com for the latest updates and flexible booking options. If expenses related to the disruption were incurred, they can be submitted through the airline’s expense reimbursement form.

Delta aims to support its customers through this disruption while maintaining its commitment to reliability and service. The airline apologizes for the inconvenience and uncertainty caused by the severe weather event and appreciates customers’ patience as it works to restore operations safely and quickly.
