Denmark Zoo Asks for Donated Pets to Feed Predators

Aalborg Zoo in Denmark has sparked outrage after asking the public to donate their pets, specifically chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs, to be fed to its predators. The zoo claims it’s a way to maintain natural behavior and nutrition for its animals.

According to the zoo, the program aims to reduce waste and ensure the well-being of its predators. Owners can claim a tax deduction for donated horses, while pet owners can donate chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs on weekdays between 10 am and 1 pm.

The practice is not unique in Denmark, as seen in 2014 when Copenhagen Zoo euthanized a healthy giraffe to feed it to its predators. The zoo says animals are humanely euthanized by trained staff before being used as food for the predators.

The move has sparked online backlash, with many disagreeing with the practice. However, the Aalborg Zoo maintains that it’s essential to maintain natural behavior and nutrition for its animals.
