The Palisades Fire has destroyed over 5,000 structures, prompting concerns for homes and the community. Actor Dennis Quaid, a Golden Globe nominee, shared his family’s experience with KNBC, stating they’ve been fortunate so far.
Quaid described waking up to a massive smoke plume on Tuesday and watching planes drop retardant near his home on Wednesday. He praised firefighters and helicopter pilots, saying they’re “incredible.” However, he also mentioned that his house was in the evacuation zone, putting him and others at risk.
Quaid expressed support for rebuilding efforts, acknowledging the difficulties of rebuilding homes. The fires have claimed 11 lives, forced over 105,000 people to evacuate, and destroyed nearly 5,316 structures, including 426 homes. President Joe Biden has declared the disaster major and extended his visit to support those affected.
Biden also noted that at least two more people have been killed in the wildfires, which were exacerbated by a “life-threatening and destructive” windstorm.
