Denver Airport Simplifies Security Checkpoints

Denver International Airport (DIA) has made significant changes to its security checkpoints. As of Tuesday, travelers will now be routed through either the east or west checkpoints on Level 6.

The new checkpoint mirrors the west security checkpoint and features three separate entrances for standard passengers, restricted access groups, and TSA PreCheck customers.

According to Douglas Cruz, federal security director for Colorado, the new checkpoint aims to improve safety and security while providing a more efficient experience for passengers.

Meanwhile, the south security checkpoint will largely be nonoperational but may remain open intermittently until September 2, depending on staffing and passenger demand.

DIA is investing in its $2 billion renovation project, which includes scaling up operations for continued growth. The airport expects to add eight new security lanes on Level 5 by late summer 2026.

Additionally, a National Environmental Policy Act study is underway to explore potential changes to Peña Boulevard, the key highway connecting DIA to the city and region, with an estimated cost of $15 million.
