Denzel Washington Gets Physical at Cannes Film Festival

Denzel Washington was involved in a heated exchange with a photographer on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival on Monday, May 19. The Oscar winner, 70, was attending the world premiere of Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest,” where he stars alongside A$AP Rocky.

The incident occurred when a photographer attempted to grab Washington’s attention. Firmly pointing his finger at the photographer and repeatedly screaming “stop” as he approached, Washington showed the man he meant business. The photographer ignored his warnings and continued to taunt him until Washington finally pulled away.

Despite the altercation, Washington was honored with an honorary Palme d’Or award before the film’s premiere. Festival chief Thierry Frémaux addressed the crowd, praising Washington’s contributions to cinema. Lee presented the award to Washington, calling him “my brother” and expressing his gratitude for their collaborative work on the film.

Washington is set to star in “Highest 2 Lowest,” a thriller inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 Japanese movie “High and Low.” The film follows Washington’s character, David King, as he becomes an extortion victim. It will be released in theaters on August 22 and available on Apple TV+ in September.
