DermaRite Industries has issued a nationwide voluntary recall of its products due to contamination with Burkholderia cepacia, a bacterium that can cause serious infections in immunocompromised individuals. The affected products include DermaKleen, Dermasarra, Kleenfoam, and Perigiene items.
The recalled products were distributed across the United States and Puerto Rico, and are commonly used in healthcare settings for handwashing and skin care. Individuals using these products should discontinue use immediately if they have compromised immune systems or are attending to immunocompromised individuals.
Consumers can report adverse reactions or quality problems experienced with the product by submitting a report online through the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program or by mail/fax. DermaRite customers can also contact their physician, health care provider, or call 973-569-9000 x104 for more information.
A full list of recalled products and labels is available on the Food and Drug Administration’s website. Newsweek will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
