Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow has announced his retirement from the NFL, citing health concerns and a desire to prioritize his family’s future. The 29-year-old four-time Pro Bowl selection played in 16 games last season, missing only one game due to an injury.
Ragnow had struggled with toe injuries throughout his career, including a severe turf toe injury in 2021 that forced him to miss 13 games. He has since undergone multiple surgeries and has come to accept that the injury will require ongoing management.
The Lions organization has offered support during Ragnow’s retirement process, and he expressed gratitude towards the team and its fans. His departure creates an opportunity for rookie Tate Ratledge, a second-round pick from Georgia, to fill the starting center role.
