Actor Devin Harjes has died after complications from cancer at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City on May 27. The 41-year-old actor was best known for his roles in the TV series “Boardwalk Empire” and “Manifest”. He had also appeared in various theater productions and guest-starred in several other shows, including “Blue Bloods”, “Orange is the New Black”, and “Gotham”.
Born on July 29, 1983, in Lubbock, Texas, Harjes began his career in theater before landing a starring role as Jack Dempsey in “Boardwalk Empire” in 2011. He went on to portray Pete Baylor in seasons 2 and 3 of the sci-fi drama “Manifest”. Harjes was also an avid martial artist and regular gym-goer, often joking that it was safer than getting kicked by a horse.
The actor’s death has been met with tributes from colleagues, including director Antonio DiFonzo and filmmaker Debra Markowitz. Harjes is survived by his parents, sister, and cat Maude.
